Saying hello to my new big love meant saying buh bye to my home office / guest room. Fortunately, he is well worth it, and I had so much fun turning it into a sophisticated safari themed nursery. I wanted the room to have a relaxing, airy vibe with pops of color. I painted the walls with Benjamin Moore Natura paint in Moonshine (no VOC for mama and baby) when I was around seven months pregnant (I recommend doing it sooner if you’re going the DIY route). To create more play space on the floor and less of a “guest room” look, I turned the right side of the bed toward the wall and loaded sides of the bed touching the walls with pillows to make it a cozy daybed-esque reading nook which still doubles as a guest bed for visitors. I wanted the larger furnishings to be neutral enough to be used in other rooms later without looking like nursery furniture. I added color and whimsical elements using pillows (most of which we already owned) and smaller decor pieces like the stag head, bear jar, ride-on sherpa rocker, and baby animal prints (which he is now starting to notice while I change him). I am thrilled with how it turned out, and my friends and family are too: we often end up hanging out in his room whether he is in there or not because it’s so relaxing and cozy.

I hope you enjoyed the tour.
