Donating To Locks Of Love

Locks of love donation

I just had my hair cut this past week to donate to Locks of Love. It’s sixth donation, and my largest at a whopping 14 inches. I’ve been surprised during recent conversations around it that most people think they would not be able to donate, so I wanted to dispel some common misconceptions and share some guidelines in case you’re thinking about making the cut.

Why do this?

Locks of Love is teamed up with a manufacturer to create real human hair pieces for children who have medical conditions that prevent them from growing or keeping their own hair. Human hair wigs are an enormous expense, and are not covered under insurance. It costs nothing for us to give our hair for them, except for postage (though some salons do comp that for you).

How much do I have to give?

The minimum for donation is 10 inches, and dyed hair is accepted. More on that here.

How can I donate my hair?

Hair must be secured with a hair tie in a ponytail or braid before being cut and shipped in the ponytail or braid. Next, you will fill out this donation form and send it in along with your pony to Locks of Love 234 Southern Blvd. West Palm Beach, FL 33405 – 2701.

It’s that easy!

My personal tips:

-Take prenatal vitamins to keep your hair long and strong. I take these and I swear by them for beauty reasons far beyond pregnancy.

-Heat your hair at a minimum, so try to reduce blow drying, flat ironing, and wanding to keep your hair from breaking.

-Get excited and inspired for your new hairstyle change by pinning.

-Go with a stylist who you trust completely for the big day.

I’m so glad I went to my stylist’s home, because we took almost 5 hours. Thank you for your patience and talent, Randi!

Who is donating with me?
