Ocean House Watch Hill Rhode Island

Ocean House Watch Hill Rhode Island

If you’re looking for a beach getaway just under 3 hours from Manhattan (only 2 from Connecticut), Ocean House in Watch Hill, Rhode Island is it. We took a family trip to Ocean House with our two sons (15 months old and 3 years old) over Labor Day Weekend, and I was surprised that despite hosting a wedding on Sunday night, it never felt crowded.

Here is what you need to know:

On your way, stop for lunch at The Cooked Goose. A friend recommended it, and the food was fantastic and fair. Plus, the boys loved it especially because their meals came with smiley face potatoes. The Lobster Roll at The Cooked Goose

Get the lobster roll and the clam chowder. Luke is now a chowder man.

The resort itself is absolutely beautiful, as well as the accommodations. We stayed in The Spa Suite and it was the perfect layout and size for two adults and two kids. The boys slept in the living room, with Bear on the pull out couch and Luke in a crib. The hotel staff was very accommodating and had the crib ready in the room upon arrival, and set up the pull out bed each night.

The best thing about the suite (besides the 180 degree water views) is that it has a huge private terrace that has direct access to the fountain (glorified baby pool) and the pool.

The hotel owns 900 feet of private beach, and it’s one of the East Coast’s finest. Ocean House offers sand toys at the entrance of the beach, which saved us the hassle of lugging all the boys’ beach toys to and from every day.

The beach side dining was fantastic, and equally convenient.

We’re hoping to stay at Ocean House again. Maybe without our kids so we can try Coast.
